Gilmour competes for National Championship

The Gilmour Prep Hockey team’s quest for the U18 USA Hockey Tier I National title came to an end Saturday with a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Thunderbirds.  The weekend started off strong for the Lancers.  In their first game, the Lancers beat the California Stars 4-1.  Felix Plouffe, JC Houde and Gordon Wells provided the offense.  Unfortunately, Gilmour was unable to maintain that energy as they were defeated by Mid Fairfield the following night.  After regrouping and refocusing on the task at hand, the Lancers played one of their most complete games of the year and beat the DC Capitals by a score of 4-3.  Junior Felix Plouffe had two goals, while Michael Phillips and Thomas Crabtree each found the back of the net.  The Lancers earned the third seed, and headed to the quarterfinals vs. the Colorado Thunderbirds.  This quarterfinal matchup was a defensive battle, as the T-Birds held a 1-0 lead going into the final minutes of regulation play.   The Lancers pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker, but came up short as Colorado scored an empty net goal with 12 seconds remaining.  This tournament proved to be a great experience for Gilmour, as their hard work, determination and character was extremely evident on this national stage.
